Dear Friends of Bhutan,

You are cordially invited to Bhutan Day 2024 on Saturday, 15 June 2024 at the Klimahaus, Am Längengrad 8, 27568 Bremerhaven.

Participation in Bhutan Day is possible both on-site & online. You can find more information in the first comment.

This year’s theme is: “Climate change in the climate-neutral kingdom”.

Bhutan, a climate-neutral country, is struggling with the effects of climate change. Warming here is faster than the global average; 75% of the glaciers in Bhutan and Nepal could melt by the end of the century. This jeopardises food and energy security and threatens biodiversity.

Bhutan’s development depends on climate-sensitive sectors such as agriculture, hydropower and forestry. The risk of glacial lake outburst floods is increasing, which can have catastrophic effects on the population and infrastructure. Hydropower, industry, agriculture and tourism are key sectors for sustainable development, but are extremely vulnerable to climate change. The Bhutan Day offers the opportunity to discuss these topics with interesting guests and exchange personal experiences.
